The discussion: On the ”Interview” and the “Quotes” pages (lelandjamespoet.com) a questions is raised: What distinguishes poetry from prose and other genres? Two interrelated question are also addressed, What is poetry? and What is poetry about. Your answers will be heard and respected in this forum. I assume there are those passionate on all sides of these questions. (More discussion to follow. Next: Can poetry be taught?) My role, my posts, will be to periodically summarize salient points made on any side of these questions, or to capture particular insights, or perhaps to ask a question or an opinion. The goal is to delineate the arguments, frame the central points, and air the alternative answers—a discussion. The end product: I envision capturing this and subsequent dialogues on the Leland James site, perhaps even an e-book. Please tag your comments with however you want to be identified in the dialogue, by your name or a moniker. If at any point you choose not to be identified in the dialogue, let me know and I’ll respect your privacy in the final product. So-- If this is for you, sounds worthwhile, maybe like fun: Please read the “Interview” and the” Quotes” (lelandjamespoet.com) and respond here to the question: 1. What distinguishes poetry from prose and other genres?

I do agree with all of the ideas you have presented in your post. They are very convincing and will certainly work. Still, the posts are too short for starters. Could you please extend them a bit from next time? Thanks for the post.
